DepEd 7 shells out P246M for CV personnel’s incentive

On Friday, June 23, 2023, DepEd 7 Director Salustiano Jimenez stated to SunStar Cebu that this will act as a milestone anniversary bonus that is given to qualified personnel every five years.

"We know for a fact that teachers and those [non-teaching personnel] in DepEd worked hard and gave their services," he added, adding that this is a way to acknowledge their efforts.

85 percent, or 70,000, of the total beneficiaries in the region are educators.

Around 82,000 members of the Department of Education (DepEd) 7's teaching and non-teaching staff will each get a P3,000 incentive as part of the agency's 125th founding anniversary celebration.

According to Jimenez, the grantees will get the incentive through their payroll accounts on or after DepEd's anniversary celebration.

according to DepEd Order 11 s. According to Executive Order No. 2023, "Policy on the Grant of Anniversary Bonus in the Department of Education," eligible DepEd employees would earn an anniversary bonus of up to P3,000 if they have worked for the agency for at least a year.

Officials and workers who are employed on a full- or part-time basis, on a coterminous, provisional, temporary, casual, or contractual basis, and whose job has the characteristics of a regular employee are eligible.

Those who were out of the office or no longer employed as of June 23 of the milestone year, officials and employees convicted of any offense in connection with their employment during the five-year period between the milestone years, consultants, and contract-of-service or job-order employees are among those who are ineligible.

The administration of personnel benefits, as permitted by the General Appropriations Act of each milestone year, shall be the source of the anniversary incentive.

The incentive will be given to approximately 958,000 members of DepEd's teaching and non-teaching staff.

Teacher Liezel Cenas of Abellana National School (ANS), who will mark her tenth year of employment this July, expressed her gratitude for the assistance provided by DepEd.

Although the P3,000 incentive is not much, Cenas claimed that any money benefit is already a huge help.

She replied, "Of course, this will be used to buy essential goods. This will serve as a reward to myself, especially since I will be marking a decade in service."

She hasn't yet received her incentive, according to Cenas.

The incentive needs to be raised, according to Antonia Lim, head of the Alliance of Concerned Teachers 7 and a math instructor at ANS.

The grantees will benefit from the incentive, according to Lim, but she thinks they should receive more, particularly the teaching staff.

Lim added in Cebuano, "The teachers will be happy at least there is an incentive, but that amount is not enough."

She emphasized that although the grant of the milestone anniversary bonus to qualified personnel was authorized during the late former president Fidel Ramos' administration, the sum has not changed since that time.
