🎨 Madonna with the Yarnwinder - Leonardo da Vinci (1510)
Leonardo da Vinci painted at least one, and maybe two, works that were started in 1499 or later that feature the Madonna of the Yarnwinder (Italian: Madonna dei Fusi, "Madonna of the Spindles"). As a secretary to King Louis XII of France, Florimond Robertet, Leonardo was reportedly working on one such painting in Florence in 1501. Although there is dispute among academics on this issue, this might have been delivered to the French court in 1507. The theme is well-known today thanks to a number of representations, two of which—the Buccleuch Madonna and the Lansdowne Madonna—are thought to have been partially created by Leonardo. Both paintings' underdrawings display comparable exploratory compositional shifts, indicating that both paintings developed at the same time.
