Family Code - Executive Order No. 209, s. 1987
The Family Code of the Philippines was enacted in 1987 to attune the legal framework on marriage and family relations to contemporary developments and trends.
Article 34 – No license shall be necessary for the marriage of a man and a woman who have lived together as husband and wife for at least five years and without any legal impediment to marry each other.
✓ Family law (also called matrimonial law or the law of domestic relations) is an area of the law that deals with family matters and domestic relations.
✓A divorce holds that the spouses were previously married but chose to legally separate.
✓An annulment, however, legally determines the marriage was never valid.
There are two ways to bring an end to a marriage – annulment or divorce. While a divorce legally ends a marriage, an annulment declares the marriage null and void, as if it never existed. The end result is the same for both options – the parties are each free to marry again.
Rights are legal, social, or ethical principles of freedom or entitlement; that is, rights are the fundamental normative rules about what is allowed of people or owed to people according to some legal system, social convention, or ethical theory.
A privilege is a certain entitlement to immunity granted by the state or another authority to a restricted group, either by birth or on a conditional basis. Land-titles and taxi medallions are examples of transferable privilege – they can be revoked in certain circumstances.

✓ Culture refers to the norms and social behavior found in a society such as customs, habits, beliefs, and laws.
